La Niña de los Peines

María Pastora Pavón Cruz, known as La Niña de los Peines ( born February 10, 1890 in Seville, † November 26, 1969 ibid ) was a famous Spanish flamenco singer and dancer.

Life and work

In 1903 María Pastora Pavón Cruz debuted in Madrid Café del Brillante. At this time, she met the painter Ignacio Zuloaga know and love. She went with him to Bilbao, where she quickly established himself as a flamenco singer at Café de las Columnas. After her separation from Zuloaga Pastora returned to Seville. After they had stood for several paintings milieu of the Basque painter model, she was known as La Niña de los Peines ( The girl with the ridges ).
