Lääne-Viru County

The Lääne- Viru (Estonian Lääne -Viru maakond or Lääne- Virumaa, German West Wierland ) is a county ( maakond ) in Estonia.

Geography

It is situated in northern Estonia and borders the counties Ida -Viru, Järva, Jõgeva and Harju. 2005 was extended by the municipality Lehtse that previously belonged to the county Järva. 47% of the area are forests. To the southwest lies the nature reserve end position.

Policy

Under a law of 13 December 1995, the governor is appointed in consultation with the local government on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

Governor

The Governor directs the business of the district administration, represents the interests of the state and to ensure a balanced development of the circle. He coordinates the cooperation between the regional offices of ministries and other administrative authorities and the local government. He is also responsible for the distribution and use of state property in the district, approved the proposed budgets of state agencies and monitors compliance.

The governor is the Government of the Republic of Estonia accountable on its activities.
