Kadrina Parish

Kadrina ( German Saint Catherine ) is a municipality in the west of the circle Lääne -Viru in Estonia and was founded in 1988 in its present form.

The community makes up 10% of the total area of the circle Lääne -Viru. Their northern boundary is also the southern boundary of Lahemaa National Park.

Geography

An interesting landform in the community Kadrina are the ridges left by the last Ice Age. In Neeruti conservation area, the burrs are in 2's or 3- rows side by side, which is why they are also the furrows of Kalevipoeg, the Estonian national hero called. Similar structures can also be seen at Kallukse, Vohnja and Vatku.

The river flows through the town Loobu 50 kilometers from south-east to north -west. It rises to the Jõepere and Pundi sources and is suitable for canoeing. The river banks are mostly swampy and overgrown with bushes. The rivers Loobu and Läsna but also Udriku and Vaiatu are spawning grounds for salmon.

The community Kadrina lies partially within the territory of the National Water Reserve Pandivere and more than one fifth of Lahemaa National Park is located in the municipality.

History

The territory of the municipality Kadrina was probably settled between the 5th and 8th century and first part of the historic area Repeli.

The German Order conquered the territory 1219. A year later, 1220, the Danes founded the parish Torvestavere, later called Tristfer.

The present church dates from the 15th century. Saint Catherine became the patroness of the parish, whence the name derives Kadrina.

The completion of the railway line Tallinn - St Petersburg in 1870 gave a decisive impetus to the development of the community. This year, the wooden station was built. Kadrina was an important stop on the track next tapa.

1902, the local school was established for the community, and in 1907 the Kadrina Society of Education.

The monument on field stones to commemorate the fallen from Kadrina in the First World War and in the Estonian War of Independence was built in 1926 in front of the church.

Others

Friedrich Reinhold Kreutz Forest was born in the village of Kadrina.

Some pastor of the Church of Kadrina as Heinrich Stahl ( 1633-1638 ), Reiner Brocmann ( 1639-1647 ) and Joachim Gottlieb Schwabe ( 1754-1800 ) have contributed significantly to the development of Estonian literature. For the reminder of the monument to the Estonian language was built in 1994.
