Origin and History

Since 1989, the Australian Wally Conron of Kew dealt with breeding attempts for a guide dog, allegedly with a dog hair allergy should be better tolerated by humans. To this end, he crossed the Labrador frequently used as a blind dog with the Poodle, the coat is not subject to change. The resulted dogs was designated by the contraction of the two breed names as Labradoodle.

Labradoodles have a poodle -like fur, all colors are permitted. Currently, the goal is not yet fully achieved " no shedding ". The size in 2009 is 54 to 65 cm and weight between 25 and 35 kg.

Breed development in Australia

In Australia, two teams strive to breed the Labradoodle. The breeding and marketing activities are coordinated by the Labradoodle Association of Australia Inc. ( LAA) was founded to 1998. The LAA renamed itself in 2005 in Australian Labradoodle Association ( ALA) and founded in the same year, together with the Australian Labradoodle Association of America ( ALAA ), the International Australian Labradoodle Association ( IALA ) ( First International Labradoodle Association (ILA ) below). The IALA in 2009 had more than 1500 dogs registered.

For achieving a breed standard both crosses between Labrador and poodle used as well as other breeds are crossed. To distinguish between hybrid dogs, the dogs intersections are called Australian Labradoodle. As part of the efforts to the development of a breed breeds were established, their use for breeding of Labradoodles Australia is accepted: Labrador Retriever, Irish Water Spaniel, Curly Coated Retriever, American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniel.

The ALA strives for the Australian canine federation Australian National Kennel Council ( ANKC ) to obtain recognition of the breed Labradoodles. For this purpose, a renaming of the race would be required because the ANKC does not recognize any combination of names of other races as a breed name.

Parallel developments

Parallel to these developments with its center in Australia, there are still intersections of parent animals of the breeds Labrador and Poodle ( hybrid dogs), which are sold under the name Labradoodle. Litters from such matings fall according to Mendelian rules as F1 offspring of two inbred lines usually phenotypically quite homogeneous from ( hybrid vigor ). If, however, continued to breed these dogs, the distribution of the characteristics of the dogs of the F2 generation can not be predicted.

Special features of the coat structure

The Labradoodle is often advertised as nichthaarend and hypoallergenic with features. Studies on the coat of this dog, however, showed that the amount of allergen is not different in the fur of the other dogs in the fur. A hypoallergenic dog does not exist according to present knowledge.

Most of the dogs have sumptuous coat, which needs to be brushed several times a week.
