Labyrinth (film)

The Labyrinth is a fantasy adventure film in which roles with animatronics ( advanced Muppet puppets) are occupied. It was published in 1986 under the original English title labyrinth.

Action

Sarah is who feels wronged by her father and stepmother and therefore escapes into a fantasy world, a 15 -year-olds. One day she is to act as a babysitter for her little half-brother Toby. Since Toby whines and soothe by anything, Sarah is very quickly overwhelmed by the situation, and she impulsively wishes that goblins like to bring the baby - which prompt really happens, what they regretted shortly thereafter. The baby Toby is gone, but it appears the goblin king Jareth. No pleading and begging helps to persuade the goblin king to return Toby, but he lets her 13 hours time to liberate the kids from his by a huge maze surrounded the castle. Otherwise Jareth Toby will turn into a goblin.

The path to the castle "beyond an unknown world " through an enchanted labyrinth full of dangers and wonders and strange creatures: live rock, wild monsters, talking hands, mysterious doors, fire heads, deceitful root weight density and the " bog of eternal stench " playful. But in this maze is Sarah not only obstructions, but also new friends that will help her to cope with the many difficulties in their rescue.

Background

The film was inspired by the books of Maurice Sendak and Lewis Carroll, seen standing at the beginning in Sarah's room.

The production was carried out by George Lucas and his effect from Industrial Light & Magic did the visual effects.

In several scenes the goblin king Jareth plays with one or more crystal balls. The techniques shown are simple elements of contact juggling, and the hand - which you can see in these scenes - not heard David Bowie, but the performance artist Michael mosques.

Although the film flopped at the time, he is now one of a large following. The film is a timeless bestseller and the book " Goblins of the Labyrinth " (from designer Brian Froud ) was the 20th anniversary re-issued.

Inspired by the film published Lucasfilm Games ( now LucasArts ) his first adventure, the one of the first complex graphical adventure games ever was with labyrinth.

The music was provided by David Bowie.

Gates McFadden, who later starred in Star Trek: The Next Generation played, worked for this film as a choreographer. Among other things, she developed the Ball sequence and the battle in the goblin city.
