Ladislav Zívr

Ladislav Zívr (* May 23, 1909 in Nová Paka; † 4 September 1980 in Staré Paky Ždírec u, Czechoslovakia ) was an important Czech sculptor of the 20th century.

Life and work

Ladislav Zívr went to the Vysoká škola umělecko - průmyslová v Praze ( Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague). Clay was his preferred material, although he also mastered other techniques such as assemblage or gypsum in combination with other materials. Numerous sculptures of him are made of wood or stone.

In the 1940s, became a member of Skupina 42, a group of artists, in which he was the only sculptor.

Zívr made ​​many designed in the style of cubism and surrealism works. His works first presented artisans and musicians in conjunction with tools or instruments dar. Later, he created works with biomorphic forms, which he took from nature.

In 1966 he participated in the first Bildhauersymposion Hořice, was axed on the sandstone. Works by him are, inter alia, in the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové.
