Province

Ladybrand is a town with 25,816 inhabitants (as of 2011; census ) in the municipality Mantsopa, Motheo district, Free State Province in South Africa on the road R26. It is located 138 km east of Bloemfontein and 18 kilometers from Maseru on the border with Lesotho at an altitude of 1,577 meters above sea level.

History

The city was founded in 1867 in the field of farm Mauershoek. There 200 pitches for immediate settlement were released. The Voortrekkers wanted to secure through this settlement, the 1865 Seqiti war against the Basotho conquered areas against an reconquest.

Is named the city after Catherina Frederica fire, the mother of John Henricus Brand, then president of the Orange Free State.
