Laine Randjärv

Laine Randjärv (until 2011 Laine Jänes; born July 30, 1964 in Moscow) is an Estonian politician. She was from April 2007 to April 2011, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Estonia.

Life and Politics

Laine Randjärv in 1980 the school in Tartu. By 1983, she attended the local Heino Eller - - Music High School. She then studied until 1989, the subjects music education and choral conducting at the Tallinn State Conservatory of Music (now the Estonian Music and Theatre Academy ), where she graduated in 1996 her master.

From 1995 to 1998, Laine Randjärv cultural consultant of Tartu City Government, 1997-1998 Head of the Tartu branch of the Estonian Academy of Music and from 1998 to 2002 Head of the Konzerthaus Vanemuine in Tartu.

Randjärv belongs to since August 2002, the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Eesti Reformierakond ). From 2002 to 2004 Laine Randjärv held the office of Deputy Mayor of Tartu, September 2004 to April 2007, she was mayor of the second largest city of Estonia. This was in after Andrus Ansip, who joined as Minister of Economics in the Estonian government.

In April 2007, she appointed the new Prime Minister Andrus Ansip as culture minister in his cabinet. In April 2011 Randjärv resigned from the Cabinet. In the 2011 general election, she was elected as an MP in the Riigikogu. In April 2011 Randjärv was elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

Private life

Laine Jänes is divorced and has two daughters.
