Lake Rotoiti (Bay of Plenty)

Crater Lake

Lake Rotoiti is a lake in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand. He is the most north-westerly of a chain of lakes in the Okataina caldera and near the northeast coast of the better-known Lake Rotorua, with which it is connected by the " Ohau Channel." It drains into the Kaituna River, which flows near Maketu in the Bay of Plenty. The Māori name " Rotoiti " - "Little Lake " was created, as the discoverer Ihenga, who also discovered Lake Rotorua, allegedly saw only a small part of the lake.

The lake suffers from high nitrogen loads. 2008 a barrier was completed, which prevents nutrient-rich waters of Lake Rotorua also contaminates this lake before his discharge in the Kaituna River.
