Lake Roxburgh

Reservoir

The Lake Roxburgh is an artificial lake in Otago on the South Island of New Zealand. It was created by the damming of the Clutha River through the Roxburgh Dam, near the municipalities Roxburgh and Alexandra.

The Lake Roxburgh and Roxburgh Dam is the first of the large hydroelectric projects on the South Island of New Zealand. The small Siedling Roxburgh Hydro is located near the west side of the dam.

The dam was built in 1949-1956 by Holland, Hannen & Cubitts, put the plant in the period 1956-1962 in stages.
