Lambert II of Spoleto

Lambert of Spoleto ( * 875, † October 15 898 in Marengo ) was King of Italy and Holy Roman Emperor.

Lambert was the son of the Duke Guido of Spoleto from the House of Guidonen and his wife Ageltrude. 889 Guido was King of Italy and 891 he forced Pope Stephen V to crown him emperor. His father brought in February 892 the new pope Formosus to appoint Lambert as co-emperor. When Guido died two years later, Lambert inherited the crown, but lost it already 896 to Arnulf of Carinthia. This Formosus had called to Italy because the Guidonen him were too powerful. After the withdrawal of Arnulf and the death of Formosus Lambert 897 returned as emperor. Arnulf's anointing was instituted by Pope John IX. annulled.
