Lambert (lunar crater)

30.12

Lambert is a 30 km large crater in the southern half of the Mare Imbrium. He is easy to spot due to its isolated position in the large, almost free from craters lowlands ( northwest quadrant of the moon ) even in small telescopes.

Located east of the crater Lambert almost equally large crater Timocharis. To the south and south-west there are the slightly smaller crater Pytheas and Euler.

Lambert has a sharp outer wall, contrasting inner walls and a rough interior which has a similar albedo to its surroundings. Instead of a central low point of a small secondary crater is located in the center of the crater floor, which is a rare exception.

Just south of Lambert the area covered by lava edge of a large crater, which greatly eroded Wall is barely protrudes above the Mare - rock. This so-called ghost crater is almost twice as large as Lambert, but you can only see in Terminator near him, ie when the sun is very low and casts long shadows. This ghost crater is called ' Lambert R'.
