Lamine Diatta

Lamine Diatta ( born July 2, 1975 in Dakar ) is a Senegalese football player. He plays mostly at right-back or center-back.

Club career

Diatta came with his family in his early childhood in France. In Toulouse, he completed his first steps in professional football. In 1999 he moved to Olympique Marseille, but left the club again after a few weeks and joined Stade Rennes, where he remained for five years and quickly established himself as a regular player. In 2004, he signed a two -year contract with the French champions Olympique Lyon series, but was often behind Anthony Réveillère only second choice. After two league titles in 2005 and 2006, he moved again within France free transfer to AS Saint- Étienne before he went to Turkey to Istanbul Beşiktaş 2007. His engagement there lasted only a few months and it caused " personal reasons, " his contract again.

In March 2008, he signed with the English first division club Newcastle United a short-term contract until the end of the season. This was not renewed after the season.

National

Diatta participated in four African championships in a row with the Senegalese national football team between 2002 and 2008. Best result was reaching the final in 2002 when they defeated with 2:3 Cameroon on penalties. In the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea the defender completed all five games over the full distance. Senegal failed in the quarter -finals in extra time to Turkey and thus reached the first African team since Cameroon 1990, the round of the last eight at the World Cup.
