Lampranthus spectabilis

Lampranthus is a plant genus of the family of Mesembryanthemum plants ( Aizoaceae ). The botanical name is derived from the Greek words for lampros, bright ' and anthos for, bloom ' and refers to the brightly lit flowers of most species.

Description

The species of the genus Lampranthus are upright to creeping shrubs, often with markedly red shoots. Your paired, cylindrical or triangular leaves are almost not grow together and only moderately Xeromorph. They are up to 5 inches long. The leaf surface is dotted smooth and only occasionally.

The flowers appear singly or in larger like Asia and are usually available on short stems. They reach a diameter of up to 6 inches. There are five sepals present. The numerous petals are often brightly colored and bright. They are white, yellow, orange, red or purple. Filamentous staminodes are present in the rule. The nectary forms a nondescript, finely notched ring.

The fünffächrigen, dark brown seed capsules are long lasting. Your base is long funnel -shaped to bell-shaped, raised the top. The mostly rectangular flap wings are great. The source strips diverge, the ceiling fans are strong. Closure body are not present The fruits contain brown, pear-shaped seeds that are more or less smooth to slightly papillose.

Dissemination

The distribution of the genus Lampranthus extends in a wide band along the coast starting south of Lüderitz in Namibia on the South African provinces of Eastern Cape, KwaZulu -Natal, Namaqualand, Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces and the. The majority of the species growing in the winter rainfall areas in the Cape of Good Hope. The species are distributed in very different habitats. They grow on sandy soils along the coast or on a slate or Lehmebenen. Often they are found in rocky areas and on sandstone soils.
