Laraine Day

Laraine Day, civil La Raine Johnson ( born October 13, 1920 in Roosevelt, Utah, † November 10, 2007 in Ivins, Utah ) was an American actress and television presenter.

Life and career

Laraine Day came from a prominent Mormon family and had a twin brother. After her family moved to Long Beach, Day began with acting. Their first stop was the Long Beach Players. She gave her film debut in 1937 in a small supporting role in the film Stella Dallas by King Vidor. In 1938, their roles, mostly in Western George O'Brien, bigger and in 1939 she began to take on more leading roles at MGM. Her first major film was Sergeant Madden directed by Josef von Sternberg. Her best-known role of the nurse Mary Lamont began in the same year. It belonged in the film series by Dr. Kildare. By 1941, she played the role on the side of Lew Ayres in seven films. Then she left the series to begin a larger, independent film career. In 1940 they had a significant role in Alfred Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent. But her film career a few trip did not go as desired, and up to a couple of the film until 1960, ended her movie career after 1949. According to their separation from the Doctor Kildare series they did not get any roles in major films, but usually only in films with moderate budget.

1942 Day married the musician Ray Hendricks, from which it again in 1947 but separated in order to marry the former baseball star and former coach Leo Durocher. The couple remained together until 1960 and had two children. Day developed a special fondness for baseball and even published a book on the subject, so she got the nickname The First Lady of Baseball. Since 1951, Day began a second career in television, which began its triumphal march in the U.S. at this time. Daydreaming with Laraine your shipment was one of the first talk show on U.S. television. In addition, she stepped up to the mid-1980s and over again in guest roles in television series on, including Lou Grant, The Love Boat and Fantasy Iceland. 1960 Day married a third time. The marriage, which lasted until her death, brought forth two more children.

For its services, Day was honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with an asterisk. Until her death, she was an active member of her church. Politically, it was avowed Republican, a member of the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals and follower of Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon, whom she assisted in his presidential candidacy in 1960.
