Work

Lari Pittman's artistic training was in the 1970s when conceptual art occupied a leading position. Whereas his early work, therefore, consciously try to disrupt a performance of " pure painting " by collage and assemblage, these techniques disappear mid-1980s - the collagen gorgeous but remains intact.

Pittman's paintings have more layers and levels of meaning, they carry a separate power of symbols. Each painting is a complex construction of characters, a space for themselves. The works designed to be layered and nested. In their narrative design, they create their own systems and order. Pittman brings lines, abstract shapes and stylized representational objects together in complex, palimpsest-like paintings superstructures. The result is presented almost like an archaeological site in which the viewer has the task of bringing centuries hidden layer by layer to light.

The Latin American roots of the artist play a role in the pictorial composition. Pittman integrates folkloric elements of flora and fauna, mythological figures, fetish objects and everyday objects of Latin America into his compositions.
