Larissa (mythology)

Larissa (Greek Λάρισσα or Λάρισα ) is a figure in Greek mythology, which is handed down times as Thessaly, sometimes as Argive heroine.

In Argos she is daughter of the Argive king Pelasgos and a nymph. As such, it is named after the Argive Larissa castle and two cities in Thessaly. There she was with Poseidon mother of Achaeus, Phthios and Pelasgos who migrated into Thessaly Haimonia later.

In the Thessalian variant she bore to Poseidon 's sons Phthios and Pelasgos after they had fallen playing ball in the river Peneus.

From a small Asian Larisa Larisa from the Hermus Strabo reported that they drowned before the wedding with their father Cyzicus Piasos in a wine barrel, because he had sinned against her.

According to her, the fifth moon of the planet Neptune was named.
