Lateef Kayode

Lateef Kayode (born 3 March 1983) is an undefeated Nigerian professional boxer in the cruiserweight division. Kayode is coached by four-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach.

Boxing career

Kayode was on 15 August 2008 his debut as a professional boxer in Washington, DC and won it against the Americans Mike Miller. He won all the following structure fights and got his first big fight against Matt Godfrey. The fight was held in Santa Ynez on 10 June 2011. Kayode dominated the fight from the start and beat Godfrey in rounds one, five and nine down. This but recovered again and again, so that Kayode finally clearly won the fight on points.

On March 10, 2012 was officially announced that Kayode to earn his first world championship fight against American Antonio Tarver. The fight was scheduled for June 2, 2012 and was held in Oakland, California. Tarver was the favorite in this fight, but stayed inactive in the early rounds, so that Kayode was able to score here. In the later rounds Kayode has met a couple times difficult, but never went to the ground. The fight ended after 12 rounds with a polyphonic draw after each one judges evaluated the struggle for Kayode and Tarver, and the third a draw.
