Latimer Road tube station

Latimer Road is an aboveground station London Underground in the urban district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2 at the Freston Road and is served by trains of the Hammersmith & City Line and the Circle Line. In 2011, 1.7 million passengers used the station.

The opening of the station took place on December 16, 1868 by the Metropolitan Railway ( predecessor company of the Metropolitan Line). The route was opened in 1864 but by the Hammersmith & City Railway, which was initially part of the Great Western Railway and three years later became the property of the Metropolitan Railway.

Located just south of Latimer Road branched off from 1864 onwards, an additional route to the south, the station Addison Road - led and of the Metropolitan Railway as part of the outer ring ( Outer Circle ) was served - now Kensington ( Olympia). This line was closed on 19 October 1940. In 1990, the operational independence of the Hammersmith branch of the Metropolitan Line under the name Hammersmith & City Line. Since December 13, 2009 here also keep trains on the Circle Line.

Unusually, the Latimer Road and the station, which has been named after this road, around 500 meters apart. The road is located north and south of the station Westway, a multi-lane expressway. Before the construction of the Westway (1964-1970) was the Latimer Road further south to the station. The construction of the highway required the demolition of the central section of Latimer Road, the separated southern section was renamed in Freston Road. Nevertheless, the station retained its original name.
