Lattelecom

Lattelecom (formerly Lattelekom ) is a telecommunications companies and Internet service providers from Latvia.

The Lattelecom Group provides information technology, telecommunications and outsourced business process solutions by all companies in the group. The Lattelecom group is made up of five companies together: SIA Lattelecom, Lattelecom BPO, Citrus Solutions and Lattelecom Technology and its subsidiary, Baltic Computer Academy. The Lattelecom Group is a leading provider of electronic communications services in Latvia and provides electronic communications solutions for private users, small and medium businesses, government and municipal agencies as well as large enterprises to. 51% of the shares in Lattelecom are state-owned, the remaining 49% are held by the Scandinavian company TeliaSonera AB. Lattelecom in turn holds 23% stake in the Latvian mobile operator Latvijas mobilais phone.

History

The Latvian national telecommunications company Lattelecom (formerly Lattelekom ) was registered on 9 January 1992 in the business register. Nearly two years later, on 22 December 1993, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia confirmed the Commission's decision to declare the British- Finnish consortium TILTS Communications to the winner of the tender "Modernization of the Latvian telecommunications network ". Thus, the company became a strategic investor for Lattelekom. The contract was concluded with TILTS Communications and SIA Lattelekom launched on 14 January 1994. As a result of the privatization of 49% of the company shares were acquired by two foreign investors - Cable and Wireless and Telecom Finland, which later became part of the Swedish telecommunications company TeliaSonera AB were.

Cable and Wireless sold his shares later at TeliaSonera, which today 51% of the company lie in state Latvian hand and 49 % belong to TeliaSonera. Until 1 January 2003, the company had a monopoly in fixed-line voice communication services, whereby it has become the leading fixed-line operator.

Lattelecom group

The Lattelecom group is made up of five companies:

  • Lattelecom: specializes in the provision of Internet, voice and TV services.
  • Lattelecom BPO: Customer Service Solutions, Business Process Outsourcing ( BPO) and 1188 telephone directory services.
  • Citrus Solutions: the product of the separation of the former network maintenance department of the parent company Lattelecom offers integrated network infrastructure construction and security system solutions.
  • Lattelecom Technology: integrated IT solutions and services. Subsidiary SIA Baltijas Datoru Academia as training and certification center provides services for information and communication technology (ICT ) professionals and users.

Lattelecom Internet

Lattelecom is the largest Internet service provider in Latvia. Lattelecom offers different types of Internet connections - Broadband DSL Internet, fiber-optic Internet and wireless solutions - Wi -Fi.

Internet over fiber

In 2009, Lattelecom began, stationary fiber services with up to 100 Mbit / s internet bandwidth to offer. In September 2009 it was announced that Lattelecom had its fiber optic bandwidth s upgraded to up to 500 Mbit / s.

Zolitude was the first residential district in Riga, in which the fiber-optic Internet service Lattelecom in January 2009 was available, later followed by Kengarags, Purvciems, Plavnieki, Ziepniekkalns and other locations. Jelgava was the first city outside of Riga, was standing in the fiber internet available, but already by the end of 2009, other cities had access to Lattelecom fiber optic service, such as Daugavpils, Salaspils and others. First, the fiber-optic network expansion took place in the newly developed areas in Riga and other major cities of the country; the reason for this was that the capital gains in the development of the network could be achieved only when newly connected buildings had at least 30 units.

The service is offered with GPON technology, making 100 Mbit / s of each connection point (Apartment) are possible. Mid-2012 was the Lattelecom fiber optic Internet 425,000 households in Latvia available, which corresponds to half of Latvian households. The infrastructure covers more than 45 cities and residential districts.

Baltic Highway

As a major communication route of the Baltic Highway ( Baltic Highway) was opened in 2012. It ensures the highest quality data transmission through the Baltic States, Poland and Germany with an extension to the Russian Federation. The project to build a combined fiber infrastructure has been implemented by Lattelecom in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom and MegaFon. The Baltic Highway ensures a data transfer rate of n * 10 Gbit / s ( the initial capacity of the system is 40x10 Gbit / s) and the geographically shortest route between Germany and Russia be. The Baltic highway infrastructure is an alternative transfer route for the networks of the former North Country Route (Russia - Sweden - Germany ) and the South Route (Russia - Ukraine - Germany ).

Wi -Fi

Lattelecom ensures the possibility of using a fast and stable Internet connection in the outdoors by public Wi -Fi. Currently in Latvia there are more than 2,700 Wi -Fi access points available.

Lattelecom TV

In 2011, Lattelecom was the largest TV service providers in the Baltic States, reaching 230,000 pay - TV customers through a subscription of one of the three TV services of the company - DVB -T, Interactive TV and Internet TV.

Since 1 March 2011, the company offers Internet TV for mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablet computers, and thus became the first provider in the Baltic States, the television on four different screen types offered - not only on conventional televisions, but also on computers, tablet PCs and mobile phones.

Interactive TV

A new television generation that enables interactivity, shall provide the customer the choice of what they want to watch and when. Lattelecom Interactive TV is an HDTV service, which provides various features such as virtual video rental, time shift, record programs and films, etc. The Interactive TV signal is transmitted via a broadband Internet connection, which the access to both the Internet as well as TV via a single cable (telephone cable ) allows. From a customer perspective, this means that no additional cable or a satellite dish to be installed.

Digital terrestrial TV

Since the beginning of 2009 and after the contract for the tender of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, Lattelecom set shared with the public radio and television center ( LVRTC ) to facilitate the transition from analogue to digital TV transmission system.

Lattelecom Terrestrial TV allows digital transmission of TV signals that can be received with an indoor or rooftop antenna. Existing analog customers that receive television through a room or house antenna must purchase a TV decoder, in order to continue watching the TV. According to the planning has terrestrial TV free access to all national channels of the country - LTV1, LTV7, LNT, TV3 and TV5.

Internet TV

Internet TV has been available since 2010 and was first aired as a test. At present, Internet TV can be received only in Latvia. Internet TV on mobile devices has been available since March 2012. It is the first TV service in Latvia, the television allows not only at any time at any location, but also on different devices - PC, tablet computer and smartphone.

Privatization

Lattelecom was as telecommunications companies previously state-owned. 1994 49% of the shares were sold to two foreign investors, Cable and Wireless and Telecom Finland, which is part of TeliaSonera today. Cable and Wireless later sold his share of TeliaSonera, which now holds 49 % of the company shares. The remaining 51 % of the company are still in state Latvian hand.

Monopoly

The Lattelecom brand

Profits and Performance

Sales of Lattelecom reached 2011 LVL 135.8 million, representing a decrease of LVL 3.8 million over the previous year. TV and Internet services were responsible for the highest increase in sales, since the number of subscribers increased rapidly. Revenues from data services also increased, while revenues from voice calls continue to decline. Adjusted profit before tax of Lattelecom was 2011 LVL 47.5 million (LVL 45.6 million in 2010 ), an EBITDA margin of 35%. The profit of Lattelecom was 2011 LVL 20.8 million, representing an increase of 8 % compared to 2010 (LVL 19.3 million ).

Number of Employees

Social Responsibility

Lattelecom implemented social assistance and charity projects. The main areas of support include culture, education and sports. The most important projects are currently supported Iespējamā Misija ( Mission Possible ) and Pieslēdzies, Latvija! (Connect, Latvia ).

Connect, Latvia!

Connect, Latvia! is a unique project in Latvia, which are more than 50 people the opportunity to acquire basic computer skills and thus reduces the number of people who can not work with a PC or the Internet. 150 groups with more than 1,500 people were organized in 2011 in Latvia to acquire theoretical and practical foundations of computer knowledge. In 2012, computer science instructors have been obtained for the training of senior citizens, thereby reducing the number of participants increased to 6,000.

The training for seniors is organized in small groups - about 14 participants per group. The training lasts three days in groups of four lessons ( 45 minutes each).
