Laura Branigan

Laura Branigan ( born July 3, 1957 in Brewster, New York, † August 26 2004 in New York City ) was an American pop singer.

Life

Mid-1970s, she studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. After a short time in the folk band Meadow she was in the late 1970s working as a backing vocalist for Leonard Cohen. Then Branigan began her solo career.

The Grammy-nominated singer had its greatest success in the 1980s. She coined the popular music of the time, especially with Jack White produced for her cover versions. Gloria, still not represented at all in 1982 in the German charts, was originally recorded by Umberto Tozzi, and the title of Self Control, 1984, the best-selling single in Germany, created by Italian Raf. Their songs were part of the soundtrack of Flashdance and Ghostbusters - Ghostbusters. In 1994 she sang a duet with David Hasselhoff for the TV series Baywatch.

Branigan also appeared as an actress on as about 1984 in Mugsy 's Girl and 1989 in Backstage - Behind the stage. In June 2002, Branigan Janis Joplin starred in the Off- Broadway musical Love, Janis.

Died in 1996 Branigan husband Jerry Kruteck, a New York lawyer, to colon cancer. Then she pulled herself up to 1999 almost completely from the music industry back.

Branigan died in August 2004 at her home on Long Iceland due to a ruptured aneurysm of a cerebral hemorrhage. She left behind a daughter. Two months after her death was the EP Face Control, a remake of their biggest hits Self Control, published by the British singer Marc Almond with the band Replicant as a tribute to the deceased.
