Lauritz de Thurah

Laurids Lauridsen de Thurah, Lauritz de Thurah also (* March 4, 1706 in Aarhus, Denmark, † September 6, 1759 ) was a Danish architect, builder, architectural historian and topographer.

Life

Thurah was the son of the Bishop Lauritz Thura Lauritzen Widsted and Helene Catharine de With. He was royal danish General builder.

Laurids de Thurah married on October 19, 1740 in first wife Anna Rosenorn ( born July 17, 1714). His second wife he married Christiane Marie Kiærskiold ( born July 28, 1714 Krastrup, † March 25, 1760 ).

In the years 1750-1756 he was the owner of Børglum Monastery at Løkken in North Jutland.

A legend says that Thurah committed suicide when he discovered that the outside stairs to the tower, which was built by him in Copenhagen was built "Before Frelsers Kirke " against rather than clockwise.
