Lavos is a comune ( freguesia ) in Portugal and belongs to the circle ( concelho ) of Figueira da Foz.

Geography

The place is about 7 km from Figueira da Foz; However, the distance is increased to 11 km since the demolition of the old bridge and construction of the feeder bridges Ponte Edgar Cardoso. Lavos is located south of Figueira inland in shallow marsh, about 4 km from the beach of the municipality, the Costa de Lavos.

History

Lavos, still under the name Lavos da Marinha, was awarded for the first time in 1217 by D. Afonso II administration rights ( Foral ), which was renewed in 1519 in the course of administrative reform by King Manuel I, under the name Lavãos. Mid-18th century, the settlements of the municipality increasingly disappeared in the sand, and the church was laid in 1632, and with it the village.
