Lawrence Gilliard, Jr.

Lawrence " Larry " Gilliard, Jr. ( born September 22, 1971 in New York City, New York, United States ) is an American actor with appearances in film, television and theater. His most famous role is that of a drug dealer D' Angelo Barksdale in the HBO drama The Wire.

Life

At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Baltimore, Maryland. He studied classical music at the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Juilliard School, but decided to become an actor. His first lead role in the movie Independence Straight Out of Brooklyn. He learned acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Stella Adler Conservatory.

He was a gangster among others in the television series Law & Order, Homicide, New York Undercover and CSI: NY seen. He had a recurring role in the HBO crime series The Wire as a drug dealer D' Angelo Barksdale. He also starred in several films such as The Waterboy and as a member of the Dead Rabbits in Gangs of New York.

In addition to his film and television roles, he is also seen as a stage actor. Among others, he received positive reviews for his role in Topdog / Underdog.

He is married to actress Michelle Paress.
