Simply Irresistible (film)

Simply irresistible ( Simply Irresistible ) is an American fantasy film directed by Mark Tarlov love. The film had in the U.S. in January 1999 premiere, in Germany it was released in theaters until a year later.

The young, but unsuccessful, cook Amanda Shelton directs together with her aunt Stella her late mother, but that does not work particularly well in the restaurant. When shopping at a market she meets the smart and pretty department store manager Tom Bartlett.

By chance, end up Tom and his friend Chris in Amanda's Restaurant, which you expect from cancer Napoleon to cook, because she told Tom on the market from their cooking skills. Use one of the crabs, which proves to be "magic cancer ," she actually manages to prepare the food, but it also reaches that Chris shows her true colors. She smashes various dishes and separates from Tom.

Then Tom Amanda offers to replace the harness. She visits him in his department store, where the two come closer. Also, the restaurant is running well again after the food has gotten better through the cancer. At a meeting at the restaurant, hover the two while they kiss in the air ( probably a work of the cancer ). Tom now holds a witch and gets into an argument about it with Amanda.

  • The film has nothing to do with the novel by Bret Easton Ellis. This was filmed with Jessica Biel, under the title The rules of the game.
  • The production cost was about $ 6,000,000, but the box office remained far behind. Thus, the film in the United States yielded only about $ 4,256,000, and in Germany a mere € 107,000.
  • In Germany it was the first film only on VHS, it is also available on DVD only since 2007.
  • The film had the working title Vanilla Fog and The Magic Hour.

Reviews

The Hamburg Evening Gazette remarked that the film " an idyllic world that would fit in a '50s sitcom " show. Tarlovs directorial effort was " light fare ". There is a lack of complex characters and storylines. Between the two leads there a "bad chemistry".

The Berliner Morgenpost understood the film as " an amusing plea for sensuality, an invitation to treat in a rationalized world," but criticized a " long outdated image of women ".
