Le Bourget-du-Lac

Le Bourget -du -Lac is a commune with 4446 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes. It is administratively assigned to the Canton of La Motte- Servolex in the arrondissement of Chambery.

Geography

The village lies between the southern shore of the Lac du Bourget, where the river joins Leysse, and the Dent du Chat, about 12 km north-west of Chambéry Prefecture. The community includes a main town on the lake shore at the foot of the Dent du Chat and some hamlet on the slopes.

Economy

The community is home to high-tech industrial park Technolac and faculties of the University of Savoie. The lake offers a range of activity for tourists, while the Dent du Chat ideal for hiking.

Le Bourget- du- Lac is located in the wine region of Savoie. White wines from the grape Altesse ( locally called roussette ) may be marketed under the protected designation of origin roussette de Savoie. For white wines, red wines and other grape varieties, the AOC Vin de Savoie applies.

Attractions

An attractions there is the Priory, a monastery from the 11th century in the vicinity of St. Laurent Church and its gardens and the ruins of the Château Thomas II, the Earl Thomas II of Savoy was built in 1248.

Le Bourget is twinned with the town of Moos ( am Bodensee) in Baden- Württemberg.
