Le Mont-Dore (France)

Mont -Dore is a French town with 1342 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Auvergne region. It is located in the arrondissement of Clermont -Ferrand.

Location

The town is located north of the Puy de Sancy in a valley of the Dordogne in the Monts Dore massif in more than 1,000 meters above sea level.

History

Even the Gauls used here the thermal springs with temperatures of 38 and 40 ° C. Later, the Romans built a spacious, richly appointed spa. During the Middle Ages the bathing was forgotten until the end of the 17th century saw " Mont d' Or" ( "Golden Mountain" ) again bathers. In the 19th century the town developed with its built of gray lava, closely packed houses as the neighboring Spa La Bourboule to the thermal spa. The carbonated and siliceous hot springs are used for the treatment of asthmatic and rheumatic diseases. The center is dominated by tourism. 2006, the place had 1,464 inhabitants.

  • Établissement Thermal. Built in 1817, the Kurhaus was rebuilt in the late 19th century in Neo-Byzantine style. It contains several rooms, mosaics, archways and pillars.

  • Les Halles du Mont Dore
  • Funicular you Cabucin, the oldest funicular in France from 1897 / 1898. It runs on 1286 m height to a clearing at the Le Capucin. The wood-sided cars are driven in the drive compartment in the top station with wooden wheels and leather straps. It is the starting point of hiking and cross- country skiing.
