Le Teich

Le Teich is a commune with 6842 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. The city is since 1 January 2007, the arrondissement of Arcachon, in the canton of La Teste- de-Buch.

Geography

The municipality is located on the southeastern shore of the Bassin d' Arcachon, right on the estuary of the River Eyre (or also called Leyre ). The area is part of the Regional Natural Park Landes de Gascogne.

Attractions

  • The ornithological park of Le Teich has existed for more than 30 years. It offers excellent conditions for the encounter between visitors and wildlife. The park serves as a resting place for many migratory birds on their migration. Especially the numerous storks always attract many visitors.
  • The delta of the river Eyre is formed by two main and several tributaries. It can be visited on a 5- kilometer long riverside walk which allows it to gain insights into the biological wealth of the Delta.
  • The source of St. John ( frz: Saint- Jean) is located on the former St. James and dates from the 17th century. The place was formerly a place of worship, which is probably of Celtic origin. The source was treated to a halt for the pilgrims, the water was very appreciated by skin diseases.
