Lehavim

Lehawim (Hebrew להבים ) is a town in the northern part of the Negev desert in Israel. In 2005 the population was 5400.

The city was founded in 1983 and is a satellite city of Beersheba. The distance to Beersheba is 12 km. It lies on the main road from Tel Aviv to Beersheba at an intersection with the road to Arad and Rahat. The Bedouin city of Rahat is located 4 km to the west.

On 23 June 2007, a new station was opened in Lehawim, which lies on the route Kiryat Gat - Beersheba.

The character of the village is dominated by single-family homes; the socio-cultural level of the people is high. Lehawim one of the ten most affluent communities of Israel.

The city is located in the semi- arid transition zone of the Negev, and the grazing of the surrounding fields is of major economic importance to the neighboring Bedouins.

Most residents of Lehawim are former Beerschebaiten and most still employed in the nearby central city.
