Arad (Israel)

Arad (Hebrew ערד, Arabic عراض ) is a city in Israel. It is located about 25 kilometers west of the Dead Sea and 45 kilometers east of Beersheba.

The name comes from the same Arad Judean fortress (see Tel Arad ), and is mentioned in the Bible (eg judges 1:16).

History

Arad was founded in 1962 by a group of young Israelis, most of whom were former kibbutz or moshav residents, who were looking for an environment that did not have the typical problems of a city: too many people, traffic, noise and pollution. Arad is known for its clean air, especially in asthma patients.

In June 1965, Arad was the status of a separate local government and awarded to a city council on 29 May 1995.

Artists' quarter Eshet Lot

The artists' quarter Eshet Lot is a neighborhood with its own brand of desert atmosphere, in the heart of the industrial zone, it is a combination of creativity and craftsmanship dar. It is located on the road that leads down to the Dead Sea. The artists, who are all residents of Arad, have jointly created a productive community with an increased sensitivity to the environment.
