Lehman College

The Lehman College is one of the colleges existing at the creation of the City University of New York, USA. 1931, it was founded as the Bronx campus of Hunter College and became independent in 1968 within the City University. It was named after the patron Herbert H. Lehman, a former New York Governor and United States Senator. The Lehman College is a public, coeducational liberal arts college with more than 90 undergraduate ( undergraduate ) and secondary ( graduate ) degree program offerings.

History

In the late 1930s, the Hunter College in the Bronx was built, the building complex was later to form the Bronx campus of the university. During the Second World War, the Hunter College leased the building complex of the Bronx campus of the United States Navy, the more than 95,000 female volunteers trained in these buildings for their military use as WAVES and SPARS in the Navy when the Coast Guard. After the Navy had vacated the premises, it was even briefly used by the newly formed United Nations, which in 1946 carried out the first meetings of the Security Council there.

Campus

The campus is located near the protected lake Jerome Park Reservoir at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West ( 250 West 200th Street). The entire campus is about 15 acres in size, the architectural style of the building is, on the other hand the modern architecture attributed to one of the neo-Gothic architecture. During the Second World War, when this was the main training center for female military personnel and 1946 for six months the temporary headquarters of the newly formed United Nations. Students

The students of Lehman College come from different countries. In the spring of 2009 11.861 students were enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, for graduate degree programs enrolled 120 full-time students and 2,053 part-time students. The Lehman College offers selected students to specific study programs.

College Now

The College Now program allows selected students of a high school to attend university courses.

Freshman Year Initiative

The Freshman Year Initiative provides opportunities for students during their first year of study a special support. In the interdisciplinary curriculum with personal support from the lecturers attended by all freshmen. To prepare for her further studies they take part in a mathematics course, an introduction to scientific work and a so-called Freshman Seminar part.
