Leipzig -Leutzsch is a railway station in the district of Leipzig Leutzsch. He is on the railway line from Leipzig - Großkorbetha and is seven kilometers of railway and ten minutes' drive from Leipzig Central Station. He is also since 1873 start point of the route Leipzig- Probstzella and was 1931-1998 terminus of the line Merseburg and Leipzig.

History

The station was opened on 22 March 1856 the Thuringian Railway and initially carried the name Barneck ( after the nearby manor Barneck ). He was later renamed Leutzsch. After the incorporation of the municipality Leutzsch in the city of Leipzig on January 1, 1922, he received the still valid name Leipzig -Leutzsch.

In 1969, the station Leipzig -Leutzsch one of the first stops of the S -Bahn Leipzig.

In the last decade of the 20th century, the station gradually lost its function as a regional station. The tram line that led to the station since 1899, was set in 2001 by the Leipzig transport companies.

As part of the extensive reorganization of the S -Bahn service in the Leipzig region to build the network of S -Bahn central Germany the station Leipzig -Leutzsch with the previous breakpoint Industriegelände West was summarized to a new station at the Georg-Schwarz -Strasse. It created new platforms on the route Leipzig - Großkorbetha (140 m long central platform ) as well as on the route Leipzig- Probstzella (two 140 -meter outdoor platforms ). Stairs and lifts connect them with the Georg-Schwarz -Strasse, thereby providing better transit traffic to the bus and tram network of the city was built. The old platforms were demolished and rebuilt the tracks in a different location.

Since the end of 2011, the railway station from the operations center of Leipzig is remotely controlled. The competent sub-center (UZ ) is the IP Leipzig-Wahren, the corresponding, connected to the IP Leipzig-Wahren, ESTW -A is located on site in Leipzig -Leutzsch station. Manufacturer of electronic interlocking system is the Thales company.

The new facilities were finally together with the City - Tunnel Leipzig in December 2013.
