The Riesa station is the only passenger station of the major district town of Riesa. He is a regular stop on InterCity and Intercity - Express trains. The station is located at kilometer 65.8 of the Leipzig -Dresden railway line. In addition, there begin the railways Riesa- Chemnitz and the disused railway line Riesa- Nossen.

History

In November 1838, the Leipzig- Dresden Railway Company took the Riesa Station conjunction with the section Oschatz Riesa train route from Leipzig to Dresden in operation. 1844 was added in the first reception building. In August 1847, the railway line Riesa- Chemnitz was opened, which branched off to the south of the existing line. Here, a second station was built in Riesa, who received also a private reception building. 1867 a direct connecting passage between the two stations was built. Between 1879 and 1881, the Chemnitz station to demand the Ministry of Finance gave you but again and united the two stations. As part of this conversion also measure the current station building was built.

1875 and 1877 the station was connected to the railway lines Riesa- Elsterwerda and Riesa- Nossen. The latter was officially shut down in 2007 after the passenger had already been set in 1998.

From 1889 to 1924, the station forecourt was the starting point of a meter-gauge train horses that led to the town hall square. Due to the German inflation from 1914 to 1923 it was decommissioned and replaced by a bus connection.

In May 1970, the station received Riesa connection to the electric railway network, as the route Leipzig- Dresden was electrified.

In the first half of the 1990s it was planned to drive around the south part of the expansion of the route Leipzig- Riesa Dresden. On March 8, 1995, this plan was discarded, and an expansion of the rail junction Riesa ( with speed drops to 100 km / h) followed. In the same year the establishment of a long-distance train platform in Riesa was rescheduled. The expansion of the station is part of the third stage of construction of the road project German Unit No. 9, which was deferred with a 2004 decision.

Riesa 2006 was the last stop InterRegio Zugpaars in the timetable of Deutsche Bahn, between Berlin and Chemnitz. Since this line is operated once a day from the Vogtland- Express the Netinera Germany GmbH.

Plant

The passenger station is located between the train yard in the west and the Elbe bridge to the east. He has five through tracks (1-5 ) and five head tracks (1a and 6-9).
