Lennart Daléus

Lennart Daléus ( born June 25, 1946 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish politician.

Biography

Daléus began his political involvement in the environmental movement and was one of the founders in 1971 of Friends of the Earth in Sweden. In addition, he was also one of the principal opponents of the nuclear industry in Sweden.

In 1980 he was first elected member of the Centerpartiet and as their representatives in the elections of 15 September 1991 concerning the member of the Reichstag. During this time, he served as 1994-1998 Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Chairman of the Ökozyklischen government delegation to elaborate a concept for ökozyklischen Sweden.

In June 1998, he was elected to succeed Olof Johansson as Chairman of the Centerpartiet and was their top candidate in the general election in 1998. In this election, however, the Centerpartiet lost 2.52 percentage points and nine of its previous 27 seats. In January 2001 he resigned as party leader and was replaced by Maud Olofsson.
