The Social Democratic minority government under Prime Minister Göran Persson needed after the losses in this election, the support of another party in addition to the Left Party, which achieved the best result of the election in its history, but the losses of the Social Democrats thus could not compensate to stay in office. To this end, an agreement was reached with the Greens.
