Swedish general election, 1940

The election to the Second Chamber of the Swedish Parliament took place on 15 September 1940.

Already in the Finnish Winter War from November 1939, the Social Democrats and the three non- socialist parties had formed a grand coalition government. After the occupation of Denmark and Norway from April 1940 postponing the elections was considered. The choice was then but performed on the scheduled date, however, the parliamentary parties agreed on far-reaching restraint during the election campaign.
