Leo Kahn

Leo Kahn ( * August 5, 1894 in Bruchsal, † 27 September 1983 in Ramat Gan, Israel ) was a German -Israeli painter.

After graduating from high school with the Abitur he made as a carpenter and then went into the School of Applied Arts in Karlsruhe. 1919/1920 he was a student of Albert Haueisen in Frankfurt. In 1919 he married Elisabeth Levy from Ulm. In 1920 he was appointed as the successor of Wilhelm Trübner to the Academy in Karlsruhe and in charge of the reorganization of the Academy. He had a first major exhibition in 1921 with Wilhelm Schnarrenberger in a gallery in Karlsruhe. 1927/1928 he took over the decoration of the synagogue in Bruchsal. 1925 to 1935 he lived in Ulm and emigrated in 1936 with four children ( Joseph, Fanny, Jacob and Bertha ) to Palestine. In 1952 he was awarded the Dizengoff Prize in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the most recognized award in the field of visual arts in Israel.
