Léon-Adolphe Amette

Léon- Adolphe Cardinal Amette ( born September 6, 1850 in Douville, France, † August 29, 1920 in Antony, near Paris) was Archbishop of Paris.

Life

Léon- Adolphe Amette resigned after his school days in Évreux in the seminary of Saint- Sulpice, and the subjects studied philosophy and Catholic theology there. In 1873 he received the Sacrament of Holy Orders and was then personal secretary to the Bishop of Evreux. From 1889 to 1898 he headed in Évreux as Vicar General of the administration of the diocese.

In 1898 he was called by Pope Leo XIII. appointed bishop of Bayeux. He received his episcopal consecration Guillaume -Marie- Romain Cardinal Sourrieu. 1906 Amette Koadjutorerzbischof of Paris and Titular Archbishop of Side. In 1908 he was archbishop of Paris. Pope Pius X took him on 27 November 1911 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Sabina on the College of Cardinals. He participated in the conclave of 1914 for the election of Benedict XV. in part. Léon- Adolphe Amette died on 29 August 1920 and was buried in the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral.
