Leon Garfield

Leon Garfield (* July 14 1921 in Brighton, Sussex, England; † June 2, 1996 in London) was a British novelist and screenwriter.

Life

In his youth, Garfield studied art, which was interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War. He served in the British Army Medical Corps, was stationed in Belgium and met Vivien Alcock, whom he later married. She was also children's book author. After the war, Garfield worked as a technician in a laboratory of Biochemistry at a London hospital and wrote in his spare books. In the 1960s, he was so successful that he became self-employed.

Garfield wrote several screenplays for Shakespeare 's beloved film adaptations. Garfield's first book, the pirate story Jack Holborn, appeared in 1964.
