Leonard Sachs

Leonard Sachs ( born September 26, 1909 in Roodepoort, Transvaal, † June 15, 1990 in London) was a British actor of South African origin.

Life

Leonard Sachs was born in South Africa in the city of Roodepoort, Transvaal. He could look back over his career on many television and film roles between 1930 and 1980. He played the Mowbray in the 1950 film adaptation of Richard II, the title role in John Wesley ( 1954) and Lord Mount Severn in East Lynn (1976). Sachs transformed an old Music Hall in the newly -founded Players' Theatre, in Villiers Street, London. Sachs stepped down as chairman of the Leeds City Varieties on in the long-lived television series The Good Old Days 1953 to 1983 and was known for his sophisticated ideas of the performer. Leonard Sachs life's work was honored in 1977 with an episode of This is Your Life.

Leonard Sachs also appeared on the side of Patrick McGoohan in secret mission for John Drake and in two episodes of the science fiction series Doctor Who: once as Admiral Gaspard II de Coligny in The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve (1966 ), the second time in 1983 as Lord President Borusa in Arc of Infinity.

1947 Sachs married the actress Eleanor Summerfield. From this marriage the sons Robin and Toby Sachs emerged. Leonard Sachs died in London at the age of 80 years.
