Leonine City

The Leonine Wall is a medieval fortification, which included the Roman district of Borgo and a large part of the Vatican City. Remains of the Berlin Wall located in the western section of the park in Rome, a small state on the Vatican Hill in the Vatican Gardens. The Leonine Wall no longer forms the outer boundary of the Vatican City; it is within the present city wall.

The wall was middle of the 9th century, when the Vatican still lay outside the city walls of Rome, during the reign of Pope Leo IV ( 790-855 ) erected. You should protect against attacks by the Saracens.

The area within the walls is called the Leonine City.
