Features

Construction of Imago

The whitish, yellowish or grayish moths of the genus Leptophobia reach wing spans between 25 and 50 millimeters. In comparison with the rest of the body, the sensors are very long. The second and third link member of the key is the same. However, the latter is narrower. The two wires radius R1 and R2 in the front wings spring from the Diskoidalzelle. In contrast, the radius of veins R4 and R5 will always start from the Diskoidalzelle. The Core Media does not start right at the Diskoidalzelle but only after about a quarter of the distance to the wing tip. The the Diskoidalzelle between the first and second median vein is limiting vein, with a few exceptions where it is the same length, significantly shorter than that between the second and third media vein. In hind wings the Humeralsklerit is bent at its base a little.

Construction of the caterpillar

The caterpillars have the typical whites physique. They are green and in some cases provided with the orange or blue markings and hairy.

Habitat

The representatives of the genus Leptophobia often found in canyons and open pastures in the mountains, where grasses ( Poaceae ) growing. The preferred food plants include species of the families caper plants ( Capparaceae ), cruciferous plants ( Brassicaceae) and Capuchin Kress plants ( Tropaeolaceae ).

System

Phylogenetics

The phylogenetic position of the genus is still unclear sure. Klots already presented in 1933 Leptophobia next Leuciacria and Elodina, but noted uncertainties. Also, a recent study in 2006 could not resolve this uncertainty.
