Les Bayard was until December 31, 2008, a municipality in the district of Val -de- Travers in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland.

Since January 1, 2009 Les Bayard belongs together with Boveresse, Buttes, Couvet, Fleurier, Môtiers, Noiraigue, Saint- Sulpice and Travers merged to Val -de- Travers.

Geography

Les Bayard is situated at 980 meters above sea level. M., 32 km west-southwest of the capital of the canton of Neuchâtel (air line). The village is located in a basin and on the adjacent gently sloping to the south slope on the northern side of the valley Vallon de Verrières in the Neuchâtel Jura.

The area of ​​19.2 km ² large former municipal area comprises the south the easternmost portion of the Vallon de Verrières whose relatively narrow valley floor here at 930 m above sea level. M. lies. Population

With 372 inhabitants ( end of 2006) Les Bayard was one of the small communities of the Canton of Neuchâtel. Of the 97.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking and German-speaking 2.8 % (as of 2000). After 1880 (1020 inhabitants), the population of Les Bayard has decreased by more than two-thirds to the village in 1990 only 301 inhabitants mattered since then is a stagnation or a slight increase is observed.

Economy

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1284 under the name Bayar. Subsequent designations are Boyhart ( 1344), Baiart ( 1373 ) and Beart ( 1400).
