Hauterive-la-Fresse

Hauterive- la- face is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Hauterive- la- face is 830 m, about 11 km northeast of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a ridge on the southern side of the valley of the Doubs, in the Val du Saugeais, at the northern foot of the Jura heights of Montagne du Larmont, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​7.46 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern boundary runs along the Doubs, which flows here in a relatively wide Talniederung to the northeast through the Val du Saugeais. From the river, the municipality's area extends southward to the amount of Hauterive showing a loose structure of meadow and pasture land and forest, and a Combe ( Central Valley ) to the Cerf. History

In the Middle Ages Hauterive and La face belonged to monastic rule Montbenoît. Together with the Franche- Comté reached both towns with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today's double municipality was created in 1823 with the merger of the previously independent municipalities Hauterive and La face.

Population

With 211 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Hauterive- la- face is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 271 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Hauterive la face was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming ) and forestry embossed village.
