Bugny

Bugny is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bugny is located on 855 m, about 10 km north of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a high plateau at the southern foot of Mont Pelé, between the erosion valley of the Loue in the northwest and the plateau of Arlier ( Pontarlier - Frasnian ) in the south.

The area of ​​4.77 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Bugny, which is on average 860 m. It is mainly composed of meadow and pasture land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. To the north, the municipality's area extends to the wooded southern slopes of Mont Pele, at the 970 m, the highest elevation of Bugny is achieved. This ridge forms an anticlinal folds of the Jura and is oriented southwest-northeast direction according to the strike of the mountains in this region.

Neighboring communities of Bugny are Ouhans in the north, La Chaux in the east, and Arçon Vuillecin in the south and Goux -les- Usiers in the West.

The village church of Bugny was built in 1673.

Population

With 172 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Bugny is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 150 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Bugny was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( dairy farming and animal husbandry, agriculture ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N57, which runs from Besancon to Pontarlier. Further road links exist with Gilley, Arçon and Goux -les- Usiers.
