Goux-les-Usiers

Goux -les- Usiers is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Goux -les- Usiers is located on 740 m above sea level, about ten kilometers northwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The scattered village extends in the Jura, on the southeastern edge of the high plateau of Val d' Usiers, at the foot of Mont Séverin.

The area of ​​17.63 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The western part of the area is occupied by gently rolling plateau of the Val d' Usiers, the average is 720 meters and is mostly covered by meadows. Northeast of the village begins a dry valley, the topographical part of the catchment area of ​​the Loue. Southeast of Goux -les- Usiers passes the 150 meter high site stage of the Bois des Raffours to the ridge of the Mont Séverin ( 919 m the highest point of the municipality ) and the Mont d' Usiers (880 m) and to the east the plateau of La Vrine about ( 860 meters ). Neighboring communities of Goux -les- Usiers are Évillers and Ouhans in the north, and Bugny Vuillecin the east, and Goux -les- Usiers in the south.

History

The parish church of Goux is first mentioned in the 12th century. Since the 13th century belonged to the rule Goux Usiers. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Attractions

Its present form was the parish church of Saint- Valere the new building in neoclassical style in the year 1722. Originates from the 17th century, the chapel of Notre -Dame de Pitié. Goux -les- Usiers was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village.
