Bulle (Doubs)

Bulle is a municipality in the French department of Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bulle is located on 824 m above sea level, about ten kilometers west of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the midst of the broad plateaux of Arlier ( Pontarlier - Frasnian ), north of the Drugeon and Montagne du Laveron.

The area of ​​14:03 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The whole area is occupied by the plateau of Arlier, which is on average 830 m. It is mostly covered by meadows, but also shows some forest areas and in the far south ( near the Drugeon ) a bog area, was stabbed in the earlier peat. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. With 876 m is reached on a hill on the northwestern edge of the sink Combe de la Rochette, the highest peak of bull.

Neighboring communities of bull are Chapelle- d'Huin the northwest, Bannans the north and east, and La Rivière- Drugeon in the southwest.

History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of bull was already inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 2003, Bull is a member of the comprehensive 10 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Plateau de Frasnian et du Val du Drugeon.

Attractions

The village of Saint-André church was built in 1750, remodeled in 1838 and last renovated in 1994. Also from the 18th century comes the fountain in the village square.

Population

With 395 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Bull is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 431 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Bull was well into the 20th century, a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D471 which leads from Pontarlier to Champagnole. Further road links exist with Bannans and La Rivière- Drugeon.
