Septfontaines (Doubs)

Septfontaines is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Septfontaines is located on 766 m above sea level, about 16 km northwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a small hill surrounded by broad plateaux of Levier, which belongs to the second plateau of the Jura.

The area of ​​18.37 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the plateau of Levier, the average is 730 meters and has a width of approximately 5 km. It is mostly covered by meadows, but also shows some forest areas. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In the midst of this plateau is the hill of Septfontaines, on the 810 meters, the highest elevation of the community is achieved. To the south is the Valley of the Combe de la Chaux. The southern boundary is located in the forest area of ​​the Bois du Pessoul, while the communal land in the West dates back to the Forêt de la Joux. In the north of the foot of the slope of the anticline of Malvaux forms the boundary.

Neighboring communities of Septfontaines are Amathay - Vésigneux in the north, and Évillers Sombacour in the east, Chapelle- d'Huin in the south and Levier in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Septfontaines belonged to the dominions Château Vieux and Montmahoux that were under the suzerainty of the lords of Chalon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Attractions

The parish church of Saint -Nicolas was originally developed from the 12th century, but was largely built in the 15th century in the Gothic style new. It has Gothic side chapels and a remarkable interior.

With 320 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Septfontaines to the small communities of the department of Doubs.
