Chantrans

Chantrans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chantrans is located on 637 m above sea level, about seven kilometers south of Ornans and 23 km south-southeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, on the plateau of Amancey that stretches between the valleys of Loue and Lison, in the headwaters of a page of Bach Ruisseau de Borneille whose erosion valley on the western edge begins.

The area of ​​14.31 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Amancey, the average is at 650 meters and is mainly consisted of meadow land (Les Prés de Chantrans ). It rises slightly towards the south and southeast. On a wooded knoll north of Amathay - Vésigneux is 693 m reaches the highest point of Chantrans. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

To the north, the municipality's area extends into the headwaters of several tributaries of the Loue. History

Chantrans is mentioned as a parish in documents in 1235. In the Middle Ages, the town belonged to the rule Château Vieux. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Chantrans is a member of the 24 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Ornans.

Attractions

The three-nave parish church of Notre- Dame de l' Assomption was rebuilt in the early 16th century in the Gothic Flamboyant style on the site of a previous medieval building. A square tower dates from the 13th century. In the old town numerous farmhouses are obtained in the characteristic style of the Haut-Doubs from the 18th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 418 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Chantrans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 501 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure
