Villers -sous -Montrond is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villers -sous -Montrond situated at 470 meters above sea level, 11 km south-southeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, on the first plateau between the Jura - edge range in the north and the Rocher de Punay in the south.

The area of ​​6.33 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the cuesta landscape of western French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Villers, which is on average 450 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The entire plateau has except for a few short trickles no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. An off-road ratio of 50 to 80 meters in height leads on to the south to the next higher layer stage, amounting to Malbrans. On the crest of the Rocher de Punay ( southern boundary ), the highest elevation of Villers -sous -Montrond is achieved with 624 m. To the north, the municipality's area covers with a narrow tip on the plateau as far as into the forest area of ​​the Bois l' Essart.

History

In the Middle Ages Villers belonged to the rule Montrond. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Villers -sous -Montrond is a member of the comprehensive 24 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Ornans.

Attractions

The village church of Villers -sous -Montrond was built in the 18th century on the site of an earlier temple, and has a rich interior (mostly from the 18th century). In the center numerous farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 180 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Villers -sous -Montrond one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 203 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Villers -sous -Montrond was until well into the 20th century through agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
